  • Why would someone remove a question regarding auto repair?

Posted by admin on November 28th, 2009 and filed under auto repair questions | 3 Comments »

I mean all I wanted was the name of a chain shop that didn’t ‘rip people off’…..and somebody got it….I wonder why….it’s a very legitimate thing to want to know….right…
Like I could see it…..maybe….if I’d asked for the names of shops that DO rip people off, LOL

Seems I missed that one. Crazy Yahoo!
Daisy thanks for the nice message.

You gonna try it?? Ask the question I mean.

Auto Repair Forum is Broken, Whats Wrong?

Posted by admin on November 28th, 2009 and filed under auto repair information | 5 Comments »

Hi all, I am an ASE Certified Master Tech and also an ASE L1 Advanced Tech. and I see a lot of people on here who honestly need help that are getting pathetic information from Backyard Benny and people who don’t even understand what they are talking about. I also see other people on here like me that are trying to help that do know what they are doing because the answers are correct but Backyard Benny or Side Job Bob keeps giving them a thumbs down. The misinformation on this forum is horrible and ultimately drives up the prices of vehicle repair for everyone in the long run because people spend money they don’t have for something that doesn’t fix the car then they take it back to the store and the store sends it back then the manufacturer raises the prices to compensate for Backyard Benny’s stupidity. I see people on here thinking all the time that they are getting ripped off when they are just mad over what they don’t understand. People on here actually think that a code reader will tell you what part to change when it is nothing like that. The machine that fixes cars does not exist folks unless you are talking about an experienced human mind. You people on here know who you are. You either are trying to help and know what you are doing or you are looking stupid trying to impress your mechanical intelligence that you don’t have on other people honestly looking for help, and you are just looking stupid to the people that do know what they are doing. Come on folks if you don’t know what you are talking about with your answers find another forum to run up your score and let the real auto people on here help the people that really need it.

I can understand your frustration but what I find most troubling is that this forum seems to have become more of an entertainment playground than a useful Q&A automotive repair forum. It seems the vast majority of questions here has become so frivolous that they are not even worthy of serious attention.

Auto Advice Needed – No title – Need to get rid of it?

Posted by admin on November 28th, 2009 and filed under auto repair advice | 4 Comments »

Okay so long story short my friend has a truck(GMC sonoma 2 door)
he didn’t finish paying it off because carmax refused to fix something shortly after he got the truck. When the repairs were on the contract but they use short cut cheats, etc…any way

    - He cannot file for loss of title because when he did that, it came up that carmax owns it.
    - Carmax does not want the truck, we have called them.
    - They will not give him the title unless he gives them 4,000$
It runs and everything but it is not in new condition…he got it used any way…

    What should he do?
He is not paying the 4 grand for something that wasn’t his fault so don’t even tell me to tell him that. (Reason I agree with him because about 5 years ago I had a car from them that broke down like a month after I got it and they refused to help so I couldnt make car payments and get it repaired so I took it back to them and left…it will be off my record in a few years)
I mean there has to be something because carmax isn’t demanding the money they just want it. If they were demanding it they would come tow it but he has had it for 3 years

He can try applying for an abandoned title.

Car max will be notified, will probably ignore it and then he can get a clean tittle.

Not sure it would work since its already in his name.

Maybe a friend can file for it ?

Its legally fraud because the car belongs to car max despite the fact that they don’t want it.

When you buy a car, its your car. Regardless of any promises to repair or not.

You have to pay for it or sue. As many parents tell kids, two wrongs don’t make a right.

And really, you hurt yourself far more than Carmax by not paying. Their credit is fine.

Auto Insurance Question – Repair or Total?

Posted by admin on November 27th, 2009 and filed under auto repair questions | 3 Comments »

I recently got into a car accident where there was front, rear and passenger side damage. The frame needs to be pulled, R&R unibody, R&R rad. support and many many more. The adjusters says the car is repairable. I understand the cost to repair the car BEFORE SUPPLEMENTS is only 58% of the value. BUT my "good neighbor" State Farm is telling me my car is worth more than it is. They tell me there’s not going to be a supplement. They have been jerking me around from the beginning. I want my car totaled. This car will never be able to sell. This car is going to be soooo unsafe. I don’t ever want to drive it again. I know how auto body shops work. If this was the adjuster’s wife or kid’s car, he’d total it. HOW DO I GET MY CAR TOTALED? Any adjusters out there with any real answers. HELP!
The body shopped estimated the damage and said that it was a total loss. I’ve been around body shops for the past 8 years. I know how they operate and how they work on cars. I know the damage they DO! Please keep in mind there aren’t any supplements yet.

You can’t have your car totaled if it can be repaired for less than the fair market value. Step away from your situation and think about it – if the insurance companies totaled every car where the policyholder, in their uneducated opinion, thought the car may be unsafe and that it should be totaled, imagine what insurance premiums would be – a whole lot higher than they are now. You are asking the insurance company to give you that additional 42% because why? What is your background in body work? Have you gotten a second estimate from a body shop that you trust? I hate to sound harsh, but you didn’t give any justification to your claim. If you haven’t had an estimate done at a body shop, I suggest you do so – maybe that will help ease your mind or, who knows, find out that you are right.

How do auto repairshops determine the number of shop hours required for a specific repair?

Posted by admin on November 27th, 2009 and filed under auto repair information | 6 Comments »

I know there is a reference guide which states the number of hours each repair should take. Repair estimates are based on the prescribed number of hours X shop hourly rate. Do you know the name of this reference or where to look up the same information online?
I ask this question because I’d like a source from which to determine how time consuming certain repairs are and whether we can consider tackling them at home. I have a 2002 caravan that needs an alternator. . . just had the other car in for over $2000 in repairs, the repair budget is wiped out.

I had similar problems with my Honda Prelude and last month. Get a free auto warranty quote and see if you can get the policy before you need to get your car fixed. http://www.simpleautoquotes.com/Auto-Warranty.html

is auto-collision repair a good career?

Posted by admin on November 27th, 2009 and filed under auto repair advice | 3 Comments »

i am a 19 year old guy, i am attending a community college and trying to transfer to a four year university, by the way i live close to Los Angeles. My current major is Criminal Justice, i want to enter the Law Enforcement field. lately i have been thinking about how unpredictable life is, and decided to double major in criminal justice and auto collision repair.I almost complete my general ed requirements and all i would need are an extra 27 units. the body shop tech will be either a back up career or a part time job, like work on weekends when i am not working for the department.

i was wondering if getting a auto-collision repair A.A. degree is worth it, and if it is a good career either as a main one or as a back up one.

thanks for reading and leaving either advice, suggestions, or tips of any-kind

I’m not too knowledable when it comes to auto repair. Last year I had an accident with my Toyota Corolla and I wasn’t sure how to fix them. I tried to search the Internet for help, but the procedures were too difficult for my skills. I ended up going to the dealship for my repairs. The dealership tends to charge more than mom and pop repair shops, but they’ve seen all sorts of situations (car insurance problems, repair warranty issues, etc) and they seem to always find a way to help me. Maybe you can try calling auto repair shops in your area to see if they can help you. http://www.autorepairshopreview.com

    Question about auto repair shop?

Posted by admin on November 22nd, 2009 and filed under auto repair questions | 2 Comments »

My hubby took his truck to a repair shop to have a dent fixed, have rods replaced in doors, and get a new windshield. After a week we got the truck back but the paint was bubbling and the windshield whistled so we took it back. We picked it up after another long week passed and it now has dents and scratches that weren’t there. Also, the windshield still whistles. Any suggestions on how to handle this situation? The windshield can be replaced elsewhere for $165.00.

Have the work done correctly somewhere else and sue them in small claims court.

Also, file a complaint with BBB and bureau of automotive repair.

The Bureau of automotive repair WILL investigate your complaint, and the repair facility will be fined if they find in your favor.

government regulations on running an auto-body repair shop?

Posted by admin on November 22nd, 2009 and filed under auto repair information | 1 Comment »

what website can i get information on government regulations on running an autobody repair shop particulary in miami florida PLEASE HELP !

I doubt very much if you can find all you need to know on a single web site.

You will have to contact the zoning board to make sure that your facility has or can get zoning approval.

You will have to contact licenses and inspections for both the city and the county.

You will also have to contact whatever government (city/county/state) has environmental jurisdiction due to waste disposal.

Since you will have employees you will also need an employer identification number from both state and federal governme-thents.

I am sure I have forgotten some of the things you will have to check into, but this will get you started.

    Hope this helps
